Office Telephone systems? I have a small business with 5 employees. Each needs their own phone, I want one number for the office with different extensions for each employee. Do I need to purchase some sort of switch for my business, or can i simply splice all the lines together and let the telephone service provider take care of the rest?
can you help me improve our office telephone system.? Hi, my boss asked me to to figure out a way to cut down drastically on our telephone expenses. Although I don't handle telephone systems per say, I'm a computer IT guy and figure I can handle this. We currently have a 30 year old dinosaur phone system supported by Avaia and it's routing four phone lines from ATT..then a fifth dedicated fax line which goes to a computer with fax software. Total 5 telephones, it's a small office. My goal is to cut down the telephone lines to 2 or 3 as business is very slow (we only advertise one number too). I'm hoping to get rid of the whole telephone system (which looks like a big switchboard and currently takes up a large closet) and get rid of the avaya bill too..phones can be bought on ebay for cheap when they break...we're only paying for Avaya to keep the dinosaur alive, and they don't want to do it. Basically the only features we need in office are the ability to put calls on hold and the boss likes his speed dialing...intercom would be nice. Any suggestions..what would you do? Links to telephone routers or voip or something would help. Thanks.
Can Singapore telephone system be used in UK? If I buy an office telephone system in Singapore, can I bring it to UK and use it?
Office Telephone for people hard of hearing? Hi, I´m looking for a good quality telephone system that can do the following: Record voide (the more the better). Have a head set plug in feature if thats available in phones. All common office functions. The most important is it must be a lot louder than normal phones. The ring must be loud, but also the speech. I have seen several phones for sale that offer loud speech and ring tone, but they are mainly aimed at simple users or the elderly with a lack of any features. Can anyone tell me where to get a good phone like this (no shops i´ve looked in supply these phones, I have to buy online). I live in Spain and the reason I need this is I work in a very loud office enviroment. The phone must function in Spain Thanks

Any feedback on NEC Aspire or Mitel 3300 CX telephone systems for a small business? We are considering both.? We are a medium sized travel agency with approximately 15 telephone users in our office and 6 who work off-site but need to be fully connected by IP phones to our central phone system. Any feedback anyone has on strengths or weaknesses of the Mitel and NEC Aspire systems would be appreciated..
What office phone system do I have and how do I update it? My two-employee (with an occasional intern) office has a very old phone system, one with probably more features than we need. We have four lines coming in. A few weeks ago, something strange happened to the phones, making them not work the same way they used to. Since this system is so old, we do not have any of the telephone or system manuals and don't know how to fix it. We may need new phones or an entire new system. The current phone seems to be a PBX system. The cabinet and three phones are all Fujitsu. I guess my question is can I just buy new 4-line phones (nice and cheap) and us them with the current cabinet, or do I also need a new cabinet (not so cheap)? Our office would probably be fine with a key-less system, just using the phones, but I imagine that would involve a removal of the current cabinet, which would also require professional installation (un-installation) services. Any ideas are appreciated. We are looking for the most cost-effective option. Thanks.
when was the first" trunk telephone exchange" established and where? We learn that first telephone systems were a horrible mess with simple subscriber to subscriber direct wires hanging over all the houses in the neighborhood and very clumsy to look at. Then the " local telephone exchange" was invented and from a single central office link between any two phones was established. We also learn that only few dozen persons at most had such phones and that it was first done only in United States of America. As the number of phones increased " the trunk telephone exchange" was invented to connect to a person in another town. Now i wish to know. When was the first trunk exchange established and where ?
What is the telephone number for France's postal customs office? A package was shipped from Maine, USA to me in Paris, France roughly two months ago. It has over $400 worth of medication in it and, more importantly, my journal. US customs is being contacted but I need to contact France's customs. I am unable to find a number online. I have tried going to the post office and have not been met with corporation. They have told me that they can't even check their system to see if it has arrived in the country and I simply have not been notified. Any help is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately my mother mailed it to me from the states and didn't get insurance or a tracking number. The US customs has already been contacted and they said that it was not stopped on their end but unfortunately we can't track it any further. I have no idea what I can do now. The post office won't help and I can't find contact info.....
Would it not be more efficient for physicians office to use email instead of the telephone to communicate.? Not all the communications between patients and doctors are suitable to use email, but many are. Health care is behind practically everybody else in using the internet new technologies, email among them. We pay more for health care than necessary and the service could be a lot better with little effort by using these technologies. Even young technologically up to date physicians are preventing.from using these technologies by the systems imposed on them. If you are a physician, what do you say/?

Can anyone tell me if the contact numbers for the car tax office (on their web site) are up to date? As we have a very efficient system in the UK and everyone is giving 100% + can someone tell me if the telephone number of the office handling car tax is now updated. I called on Monday to be told the numbers had changed, I think the time taken to record the message took longer than it would have to simply change the numbers on the web page. The frustration such overlook of detail causes cannot be put into words and is becoming a daily event, I cannot understand why Brits put up with it!

Is VOIP something I can set up myself, or am I stuck with Comcast? I have a home office in Miami. I have looked into getting a business telephone system with four lines. But here in Miami we don't seem to have that many options. Can I set up VOIP as long as I have the right bandwidth? I don't want to pay so much money with these companies that charge so many fees and only give "good prices" when getting package deals. I have to keep my budget while starting up.
Looking for help in finding an intercom type system for an office/ warehouse.? My company is interested in purchasing an intercom type system that would allow the secretary in the main office, to notify employees in the warehouse of telephone calls and stuff of that sort. It would also need to be really loud to make it over all the noise of the shop. Does anyone know of a good system or even what that type of system is called? I've tried to look it up on the web, but I must be using in the wrong name for it because I've had NO luck. Thanks so much for your help!
What does this mean in plain English? *Connect the built-in modem only to ordinary analog phone lines. (*blah blah blah never connect to digital line blah blah blah) *Never connect the built-in modem to a key telephone system for residences or offices. Does this mean it's okay to hook my laptop up to the same modem my desktop is running off of, since my desktop has DSL and is on an ordinary house phone line?

how do the hardware engineers put twenty million transistors on the button size silicon chip? We understand that the printed chip is like a megalopolis having tens of millions of residents operating in its thousands of units( offices, business houses, industries, colleges, schools, hospitals, hotels, cinemas, gardens, drainage systems, water supply systems, road transport, rail transport, canal transport systems, telephone systems, electric supply systems etc) all forming a self sufficient city system. The chip should really be extremely complicated in its internal structure. We know that a functioning unit in a chip is the"logic gate" which is just like the" room"(the brick walled cuboid room the basis of the billions of houses on earth). My most perplexing doubt is this---how the engineers and scientists print the millions of most complicated circuits of such microscopic size into the silicon chip, how do they construct the internal" microscopic houses" in chip(the gates, registers etc) by simply typing in the circuit diagrams into the chip thru a computer software? It is absolutely incomprehensible for outsiders like me (though a physics graduate). Please clarify how this engineering feat is achieved.

Any network operating system to recommend? If i need a network operating system with the following requirement, which show i use? -MNC -Printer Sharing -connection must be stable -Connection can support high traffic - The company used voice over IP for their telephone system (Not sure about this) -The company is adding more office in another country after the setting up of the NOS so it will be good if its not that complicated to add connection to the oversea new branch in future. It will be good if i can get some idea why your choice is over the others but having the recommendation is good too! Thanks. :)
Can my employer LEGALLY coerce their employees into listening to Christian music? Office Procedures, please help? your new employer owns a small dry cleaning service. She tells you she is considering installing a telephone system. Which of the following would be the best for her? A. A remote access system B. A key system C. A PBX system D. An automated answering system
How is automatic "reverse" dial possible on a telephone system? My ex-girlfriend (I have Call Display) tried to call me at my office and I didn't pick-up. She didn't leave any messages, but didn't hang up right away either, so I got the blinking "message" light. I lift the reciever and go through the menu to delete the blinking lights. But the latest time I lift the reciever and the phone automatically starts dialing her number ! I freak out and hang-up right away. I didn't use the phone for the rest of the afternoon ! How did she do this ?? I admit, I didn't think she was so smart (although she is definately crazy enough to pull something like this). More important, how do I counter-act this (without actually having to talk to her) ?

I would like to have one single, centrally-located light illuminate when any one of the phones is in use. The system needs to be plug and play, and not interfere in any way with the way the phones operate. I would also like the additional feature that I can manually operate the light with a switch. So, light goes on when someone is on the phone or when I flick a switch.

Naming PBX jacks. I have network jacks labeled IDF-# I currently am in the process of finishing wiring an office's PBX system. I have completed installing their Networking, and i labelled the jacks at each desk IDF-#(the number of the corresponding port on the patch panel). What naming convention is typically used when labelling ports that are for a PBX telephone system? I'm mainly trying to know the Industry Standard naming conventions, rather than Personal proprietary naming conventions, but either is fine. I want more ideas! thanks

What kind of job would be good for someone that can use a computer well, but not communicate that well? She can navigate the Internet very well, knows the Microsoft Office Suite pretty well, different operating systems, troubleshoots some, types fast when instant messaging friends but not that fast when copying text. She lives and breathes the computer most of the day. Most computer related jobs require excellent communication skills, including some telephone work. Is there something more routine that she could do. Don't say data processing because the job openings usually require the ability to type 80 words a minute and when timed, she is about 35 wpm. She has an Associate's Degree with a concentration in computers: a little of everything - hardware, software, a little web design, a little programming, etc. Other than a semester of unpaid internship she has no work experience. Any ideas for paid work at a business or at home? As far as web design goes she was able to learn the basics of html, but on her own needs help with designing the webpage (the creativity part).
Airports in London(and nearby) in fact any CITY? Some say the expansion is necessary, but is it? Think how so much money, pollution etc could be saved by holding conferences via the telephone system. No travel no pollution and no horrendous hotel accommodation, and in fact no time away from the office. Would any of that appeal to idiots who want to get away from family, office etc. Why does nobody make a stand? Should we who agree with m statements not get together and do something about it?
networking question? Case Study: DMS Associates DMS Associates is a consulting firm located in Eastern City. Fifty people work in its home office in two buildings in a business complex. An additional 25 employee’s work from remote locations. DMS Associates is adding another 25 employees by opening a third location, Building C, elsewhere in Eastern City. Building C was purchased with its existing technology infrastructure intact. DMS Associates has asked you to evaluate and analyze the company's existing technology infrastructure and security for its network as reported below and to recommend a best practices approach to integrating the data communication, computer networks, and telephone systems of the three locations with a focus on security that is seamless. The goal is to create a company-wide technology infrastructure which supports seemingly seamless connectivity and data flow. Building A Staff: 25 employees. The IT operation is housed here. Networking: Three departmental LANs: Business and Finance Office, Staff Consultants, and Administration. These LANs all run Windows 2000 Advanced Server. 25 Remote workers have dial-in access to the network through a modem pool. E-mail service runs on an Microsoft Exchange Server using Outlook as the client software. Phone Service: The local and long distance phone service from Local Telephone Company through a leased PBX. Phone services include Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding. Internet Access and Usage: All offices in Building A have Internet Access through the network via a T-1 line to the company's ISP, Sharethenet.com. Software Applications: All employees are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. The Company's financial systems run on Great Plains Accounting Software. Great Plains is used for personnel information, payroll, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, quarterly and annual reports, and tax documentation. Building B Staff: 25 employees; 20 are staff consultants, the other five include a branch manager, receptionist, custodians, and an IT support person. Networking: The network consists of a single LAN running under Windows 2000 Server. E-mail Service is via a POP3 client through Internet to Building A's Exchange e-mail server. Phone Service: The local and long distance phone service from Local Telephone Company through a leased PBX. Phone services include Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding. This service is not connected directly to the Building A system. Internet Access and Usage: All offices in Building B share Internet Access through the network via the company's ISP, Sharethenet.com. Software Applications: All employees are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. This location is unable to access the Great Plains financial software directly, and uses FTP to upload data weekly from an Access database. Building C Building C is located in a different section of Eastern City. Staff: Twenty-five people will work in this building. It is anticipated that staff composition will be the same as in Building B: 20 staff consultants, a branch manager, receptionist, custodians, and an IT support person. Networking: Two independent local area networks exist. Novel NetWare was used as the network operating system. Phone Service: The previous company had local phone service is provided by Local Phone Company, and long distance phone service are provided by a Sprint reseller. Internet Access and Usage: The previous company had 5 have dial-up Internet access accounts for company business use through AOL. Software Applications: Existing computers are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. The previous company used Excel for accounting purposes, and Access for Inventory, Job tracking, customer records, etc. Payroll services were subcontracted to ADP. Weekly batch uploads of employee data from Excel were made to ADP. In Your Paper: In your Final Project Paper use the information presented below to develop and describe a data communications and computer networking plan to meet these criteria: 1.The three local area networks in building A are to be interconnected. 2.The networks in buildings A & B, which are close together, are to be interconnected. 3.The new building, building C, is to be inter-networked with the other locations using its existing technology infrastructure wherever possible, though some changes may be made if absolutely required for smooth integration. 4.Employees in all locations are to have access to the Internet through dedicated T-1 lines to a single ISP. 5.Telephone service for the three buildings is to function as a single system so that any phone in any building may reach any other phone using only the extension. 6.All employees are to have voice mail. 7.All employees are to have e-mail through the exchange server in building A including the remote workers. 8.In writing your paper describe the choices you would make in terms of the type of network, the connecting medium, the data communication model being followed. 9.Explain why your choices reflect today's best practices in data and voice communication. Be specific in your reasons, including the characteristics of each choice and explaining why they are appropriate for each task. 10.Diagram the data flow for each task using the drawing tools in Microsoft Word.

John would also like to keep track of his personal and professional finances, listen to the audition recordings of session musicians interested in playing with him on his album, and have access to the Internet. What IT recommendations would you make for John?
What do you think about the Avaya IP Office? We are thinking about upgrading our telephone system to the IP Office with 406 modules. This particular person says it is the easiest most robust system out on the market. He is also claimed to be an engineer. Can someone give me some thoughts?
My employer wants to put a VOIP phone on my network? I work from home and my boss sent me a VOIP phone (that is tied to the main telephone system at the office) to plug in on my residential broadband service. Since they can track and record calls, I need to know what other information can they obtain. Can they capture internet use on the network? Can they listen to my personal VOIP service? Would they get my wireless network key? ETC....
30 days Plan to resemble a command economy in 30 days: free market and progress for all? Rockwell's Thirty-Day Plan By Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. When Eastern Europe broke free in 1989, we all realized just how little thought had been given to the transition from socialism to capitalism. Mises had told us the collapse was coming, and we should have been prepared. As America comes to resemble a command economy, we need a transition plan here too. Yuri Maltsev proposed a "One-Day Plan" for the U. S. S. R. We're not in that bad a shape (yet), so we could do it in 30 days. DAY ONE: The federal income tax is abolished and April 15th is declared a national holiday. The 40% reduction in federal revenues is matched by a 40% cut in spending. The budget is still almost twice as big as Jimmy Carter's. DAY TWO: All other federal taxes are abolished, including the corporate income tax, the capital gains tax, the gasoline tax, "sin" taxes, excise taxes, etc. Businesses boom, and the few legitimate federal functions are funded with an inexpensive head tax. People who choose not to vote need not pay it. (Note: this was a mainstream view in the 19th century.) DAY THREE: The federal government sells all its land, freeing up tens of millions of acres for development, mining, farming, forestry, oil drilling, private parks, etc. The government uses the revenue to pay off the national debt and other liabilities. DAY FOUR: The minimum wage is reduced to zero, creating jobs for ex-federal bureaucrats at their market wage. All pro-union laws and regulations are scrapped. The jobless rate falls dramatically. DAY FIVE: The Bureau of Labor Statistics, like the rest of the Labor Department, is sent to that big hiring hall in the sky. Without detailed economic statistics, future economic planners will be blind and deaf. DAY SIX: The Department of Commerce is abolished. Big business has to make its own way in the world, without subsidies and privileges at the expense of its competitors and customers. DAY SEVEN: The plug is pulled on the Department of Energy. Oil and gas prices plummet. DAY EIGHT: All regulatory agencies, from the Interstate Commerce Commission to the Federal Trade Commission, are deep-sixed. Competition is legalized. DAY NINE: HUD is squashed like a bug. There's a buiding boom in cheap, private, apartments. DAY TEN: The interstate highways reopen as private businesses. Road entrepreneurs price travel according to consumer demand. Using modern technology, drivers get bills once a month. Credit risks-and drunks and dangerous drivers- aren't allowed on the road. Non-drivers no longer subsidize car owners. DAY ELEVEN: Government welfare is wiped out. Bums work or starve. The deserving poor find a cornucopia of private services designed to make them independent. Private charity explodes, as the American people, already the most generous in the world, find their incomes almost doubled, thanks to the tax cuts. DAY TWELVE: The Federal Reserve closes its open-market operations and stops protecting the banking industry from competition. But banks can now engage in all the non-bank financial activities previously forbidden to them. The business cycle, which is caused by monetary expansion through the credit markets, is liquidated. DAY THIRTEEN: Federal deposit insurance is scrapped. All insured deposits are redeemed from federal assets, which include the personal assets of high-level government employees. The threat of bank runs forces banks to keep 100% reserves for their demand deposits, and prudent reserves on all other accounts. There are no more inherently bankrupt banks propped up by the government, at taxpayer expense, and no more bail outs. DAY FOURTEEN: The shaky fiat dollar is defined in terms of gold, with the ratio determined by dividing the government's gold stock by all existing dollars on that day. DAY FIFTEEN: The federal government sells National and Dulles airports to the highest bidder, and stops all subsidies to other socialist airports around the country. All constraints on airline prices and service cease. It costs more to fly during peak hours than off-peak, but overall, air travel drops in price. DAY SIXTEEN: All government regulations that create and sustain cartels are abolished, including those for the post office, telephones, television, radio, and cable TV Prices plummet, and a host of new and unforeseen services becomes available. DAY SEVENTEEN: Centrally planned agriculture, as imposed by Hoover and Roosevelt, is repealed: there are no more subsidies, payments-in-kind, marketing orders, low-interest loans, etc. Farm prices drop. Entrepreneurial farmers get rich. Welfare farmers go into another line of work. The poor eat like kings. DAY EIGHTEEN: The Justice Department shutters its anti-trust division. Companies, big and small, are free to merge – up, down, or sideways. Stockholders can buy any other company, or sell their stock to anyone else. Marginal producers can no longer battle their competitors with bureaucratic weapons. DAY NINETEEN: The Department of Education flunks the constitutionality test, and is kicked out. Private charities set up remedial reading and writing programs for the former bureaucrats. Federally subsidized sex education and other anti-family programs go out of business. Local school districts become responsive to parents or close, pressured by a fast-growing private school sector (which many more parents can now afford). DAY TWENTY: All federal monuments are sold, in some cases to non-profit groups based on the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association, which owns and runs George Washington's home. The VFW buys the Vietnam memorial. There is much bidding for the Jefferson and Washington monuments. Nobody wants FDR's, so it's torn down and the land sold to a farmer. (With the federal government cut back to its constitutional size, much of Washington reverts to productive uses like agriculture, as in late 18th century.) DAY TWENTY-ONE: The computerized financial and political dossier maintained by the government on every American is erased. The public wanders through the federal offices to make sure, in a reprise of the East Berliners' visits to Stasi headquarters. DAY TWENTY-TWO: Equal rights are granted to all Americans, even members of non-victim groups. There is no affirmative action, no quotas, no set-asides, no public accommodations laws. Private property and freedom of association are fully restored. DAY TWENTY-THREE: The EPA is cleaned out, with all "clean air" and similar big-government laws repealed. Ten thousand lawyers leap from their balconies. Private property is established in air and water. Americans harmed by pollution are free to sue the polluters, who are no longer protected by the federal government. DAY TWENTY-FOUR: Americans are given complete freedom of contract, restoring rationality to malpractice and product liability law. DAY TWENTY-FIVE: Government scrambles for more assets to sell (i.e., the National Zoo, also known as Washington, D.C.) to pay off the liabilities of the privatized Social Security system. DAY TWENTY-SIX: Porno artists have to earn their own livings, as the National Endowment for the Arts tries to raise its budget through sidewalk painting sales. DAY TWENTY-SEVEN: Foreign aid is outlawed as unconstitutional, unjust, and un-economic. Foreign politicians have to steal their own money. The World Bank, IMF, and United Nations close their super- luxurious doors. DAY TWENTY-EIGHT: The American people are given the unrestricted right to keep and bear arms. DAY TWENTY-NINE: The Defense Department is reoriented towards defense. American troops come home from all around the world. We adopt a policy of armed neutrality, remembering the Founding Fathers' teaching that we could not have an empire abroad and a constitutional republic at home. DAY THIRTY: All tariffs, quotas, and trade agreements are put through the shredder. Americans can trade with anyone in the world, without barriers or subsidies. Japanese car prices drop an immediate 25%. In just 30 exhilarating days, we have established the outlines of free market. Radical? Maybe so. Me, I can't wait until Month Two. __________ Llewellyn H. Cisco IP telephone technology? http://www.starshipcorp.com/shop_dealer/images/Cisco%20IP%20Phone%20CP-7941G.jpeg My school has Cisco IP telephones in all offices. Like the one shown above. Whats the specialty of IP telephones as compared to the usual telephone at home? Does the IP telephone operate on the local intranet/ethernet? And the voice is sent as packets? Hence how can u guarantee about quality as packets might get lost/damaged due to network congestion? Also, if a certain institution has an IP phone system that means their internal calls are free of charge right? (As they already have an ethernet network)
What constitutes "permanent fixtures"? In reference to a lease on a building for commerical (office)purposes what can be removed? Specifically, a chain link fence, security doors, alarm system and telephone system all installed and paid for by the tenant.
networking....? 1.A ten story office building has a 20 adjacent offices per floor, each offices contains a wall socket for a terminal in the front wall so that the sockets form a rectangular grid in the vertical plane with a separation of 5 m, between two sockets both horizontally and vertically, assuming that it is feasible to run a straight cable between any pair of sockets horizontally and vertically or diagonally how many meters of cable are needed to convert all sockets using: a.star configuration w/ single router in the middle b.An IEEE 802.3 LAN c.A ring net without a wire connector 2.Write a program (any language) that simulates a computer network using discrete time. The first packet on each router queue makes one hop for time interval. Each router has only a finite number of buffers if a packet arrives and there’s no room for it , it is discarded and not retransmitted instead there’s an end to end protocol compute in time out and acknowledgement for the source router, plot the through put by the network as a function of the end to end time out interval parametize by an error rate. 3.at the low end the telephone system is star shape with all the local loops in the neighborhood converging on an end office in contrast cable television consists of a single low cable is snaking its way pass all the houses in the same neighborhood. Suppose that a future cable television system were 10GB per second fiber instead of copper, could it be used to simulate the telephone model of everybody having their own private line to the end office, if so how many one telephone houses could be hook up to a single fiber. 4.When transferring a file between 2 computers for acknowledgement strategies are possible. In the first one the file is chop up into several packets w/c are individually acknowledge by the receiver but a file transfer as a whole is not acknowledge by the receiver. In the second acknowledgement strategy the packets are not acknowledge individually but the entire file is acknowledge when it arrives. Discuss the 2 approaches.

I need a simple home office PBX that works with analog wired phones.? Can someone recommend a PBX for my needs? I have a home office with one incoming land line. I don't what to change my phone plan nor my number. But I'd like to have an automated attendant that I can record (e.g. "Thank you for calling Acme Anvil Co. For Eric, press 1. For Samantha, press 2) and then be able to connect the wired telephones that I already have to "line one" and "line 2." I'm not worried about a high volume of calls, so the one incoming line is fine. I definitely don't want a PC or software-based system - A simple standalone box is fine. (I don't need VOIP or cordless handsets, detailed data on the calls, or anything complex). thanks

Is this true and would you agree? * I Am Angry* * by Susan Fassanella <mailto:sfassanella@adelphia.net> by Susan Fassanella* Save a link to this article and return to it at www.savethis.comSave a link to this article and return to it at www.savethis.com <#> Email a link to this articleEmail a link to this article <#> Printer-friendly version of this articlePrinter-friendly version of this article <#> View a list of the most popular articles on our siteView a list of the most popular articles on our site <#> Dear Lew, the Honorable Ron Paul?s piece <http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul331.html> on why Americans are angry really stirred me to respond. Mr. Paul?s piece speaks about many issues facing Americans today. I am a 51-year-old woman. I have been married to the same man since 1976. I am the secretary/office manager for a small legal firm in the D.C. suburbs. My husband manages a wine and spirits store. I have two sons, aged 26 and 22. After realizing it wasn?t possible to support themselves and the government at the same time, both returned to the nuclear nest. Along with most people in my economic situation, I believe I am living what is supposed to be the American dream. I know why I am an angry American. I am frightened because America isn?t the same country it was when I was my children?s age. Allow me to share with you some of the reasons why I am an angry American. I am angry because my government has been taken over by liars, thieves, thugs, deviants, and micromanagers. The propaganda it produces rivals that of the most fascist dictatorship. I am angry that my government perceives my intelligence to be that of a jar of pickles incapable of making the smallest decision. I am angry that my government takes it upon itself to shove its clucking nose into my pantry, medicine chest, bedroom, family room, doctor?s office, workplace, and everywhere else it thinks I need guidance to keep me safe from myself. I am angry that the will of the American people is ignored on every issue imaginable. If voting really mattered, it would have been outlawed long ago. I am angry that I am called a conspiracy theorist because I dare to think on my own and question authority and its lies. I am angry that the more I read about 9-11 the more it looks like an inside job that was allowed to happen, enabling the Patriot Act to be conveniently enacted into law with the ensuing "war on terrah" following closely on its heels. I am angry that the evil puppets in power think laws are created for the peon masses and it is their right to ignore the ones that get in the way of their agenda. I am angry that the media has sold its soul to the evil forces running the world. I am angry that my "leaders" have taken to calling my country the "homeland." It reeks of socialism. I am angry that my government has invaded yet another sovereign nation and caused untold death and destruction based on a flimsy lie. I am expected to believe that weapons of mass destruction threatened my freedom and then I am told several years and billions of squandered dollars later that a massive intelligence network got the wrong information. A select group of businesses profit enormously from war. When Bush announced his intention to save Iraq from itself and that its oil would pay for the overthrow of Hussein, I laughed so hard I nearly choked. I remember the instability in the Middle East during the 1970s and the gas "shortages" that followed. I knew which direction gas prices would go. How stupid does Mr. Bush and his cronies think I am? I am angry that the world stands silently by while my government bombs foreign lands with weapons containing depleted uranium and the news magazines wonder on their front covers why lung cancer has increased six-fold in the last year. I am angry that Americans accept as gospel the propaganda that is routinely cranked out of the Washington lie machine. The lies become more transparent and brazen with each passing year, yet the only thing that seems to matter in living rooms across America is who will be the next American Idol. I am angry that I am punished with high energy and gas prices and the resulting inflation because tree-hugging terrorists masquerading as environmentalists have handcuffed my country?s ability to produce its own energy. It would be easy to tell the Middle East what to do with their oil if restrictions on exploration and production were lifted in our own backyard. I am angry that I am constantly admonished by minimalists for being a greedy consumer because I live where I choose, drive the vehicle of my choice, eat meat, and use tin foil to cover my leftovers. I am angry that my life doesn?t belong to me anymore. I am angry that I am required to obtain permission, fill out mandated paperwork in quadruplicate, and obtain the correct license or permit for just about everything imaginable. The tentacles of government are strangling my freedom, choice, and privacy at an alarming rate. The wrath of the machine is a constant threat should I dare do anything without leaving a neon paper trail and of course ignorance of the law is never an excuse. I am angry that property rights are a thing of the past thanks to court-approved eminent domain theft. I am angry that the Constitution is routinely declared irrelevant making it easier for a fascist police state and new world order to take over. I am angry that legislation is in the works that will require me to carry "papers" to "prove" who I am. Another coming law I will ignore. I am angry that my right to own and carry a firearm is drastically regulated and restricted. I am angry every time I see a young person detained on the side of the road while cops paw through their possessions looking for anything that could enable them to be arrested and dragged through the criminal justice system. This has become so commonplace it is now the accepted norm. I am angry that roadblocks are set up under the guise of keeping roads free of drunk drivers. What has happened to my right to travel freely? Why am I presumed guilty without probable cause? I am afraid to have a few drinks when I go out to dinner for fear I will be pulled over and end up in court-ordered drug rehabilitation. I am angry when I read stories of Americans terrorized in airports and treated like common criminals by government minions after they have paid for the right to travel within a private system, yet pilots are blocked from carrying firearms. I am angry that America has become a nation of busybodies. We are constantly bombarded with messages to be on the lookout for terrorists around every corner, report "suspicious activity," and rat on our neighbor whenever the opportunity presents itself. Is this not how the Nazis gained control of Germany and then most of Europe? I am angry that the government requires me to sign a form every time I purchase a prescription. Whose business is it that I choose to take a thyroid medication, an antibiotic, a painkiller, an appetite suppressant, or any other substance? Am I dying of cancer? Am I facing debilitating chronic pain? Do I simply want to get HIGH? Heaven forbid someone out there might get their hands on something that might make them FEEL GOOD! No substance should be illegal or unobtainable. If a person wishes to self-medicate, that is their right. The government should not be in the business of criminalizing personal choices of any kind as long as those choices don?t infringe on another?s rights. I am angry that my government meddles in the lives of people all over the world but looks the other way on the catastrophic issue of what to do about the millions of illegals who have crashed the gates of this nation. My country?s laws are ignored and mocked, yet I am told I must accept with open arms those who are here illegally. My taxes are used to educate their children in their native language. Hospitals are overrun with indigent people seeking medical care. Untaxed dollars earned in the underground economy are sent to the family back home while social services here are stretched to the limit. I read job want ads stating if you aren?t bilingual don?t bother to apply. What would happen to me if I placed an ad that said don?t bother to apply if your English isn?t understandable? Marches are conducted in my cities? streets waving their countries? flags as they shamelessly demand their "rights." I am told they deserve the same opportunities that brought my forefathers here. I am scolded that it is un-American to ask why they are not sent home. I am told that the term "illegal alien" offends them and that they prefer to be called "undocumented workers" and that my economy would die without them. I will happily pay more for fruits and vegetables if it means enforcing sensible immigration laws. But immigration isn?t about the cost of lettuce. It is another facet of an agenda that is bent on changing the face of America. When America is no longer a wealthy country of white European descent, it will be a place worse than anything Orwell could have imagined. I am angry that my country is the only nation on earth who declares that a baby born on its soil is automatically an American citizen. I am angry that the thugs that run my country don?t have the guts to declare English my nation?s official language. I am angry that I have to search a package for English and push a button on every telephone system and ATM machine to continue in English. I am angry that Washington, D.C.?s Metro is now being pressured to replace every station sign with bilingual verbiage to the tune of millions of dollars. Are bilingual road signs going to be the next mandated law of the land? I am currently forced to pay for voting ballots printed in 15 different languages and my tax dollars pay for interpreter services for people who are summoned to court for breaking laws. If English is the international language of the world, why isn?t it good enough to be the official language of the United States? I am angry when I am told I am a bigot when I thumb my nose at political correctness. I am angry when I wonder whether an expressed belief or opinion could land me in litigation if someone doesn?t like what I said and wants to silence my voice. I am angry that diversity and sensitivity training is being forced on people whose only crime is to dare to speak freely. I am angry that the symbols, customs, and roots of my Judeo-Christian country are being systematically outlawed because my culture offends newcomers. When we freely choose to go somewhere, are we not accepting the customs and cultures of that place? I am weary of being made to feel guilty for being an American. And finally, I am angry that after working my entire adult life, I don?t see retirement in my life?s picture. My husband and I earn over a hundred thousand dollars a year, but by the time we pay federal taxes, state taxes, social security taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, excise taxes, energy taxes, telecommunication taxes, savings taxes, fees, permits, etc., there isn?t much left. But please don?t think that I mind supporting every deadbeat and down-and-outer with his hand out for a piece of my pie that I worked so hard for. I love supporting the world. After all, it?s the American way, isn?t it? /July 5, 2006/ /Susan Fassanella [send her mail <mailto:sfassanella@adelphia.net>] was born in Washington, D.C. and resides in Frederick County, Maryland with her husband and two sons./ Copyright © 2006 LewRockwell.com Wow thank you for some of the wonderfull answers so far to those that responded. and to those that reacted with shallow niave judgements and dismissals, well go do some serious work on your comprehension of the world! keep them rolling in please ;)
Is it legal for a large online business to keep all of my past credit card numbers/info that I asked deleted? Over the past two years, I used various credit cards and debit cards to pay a well known online business. I called today to renew their service and pay by credit card. I chose to call so that I could request and be sure that after they received their confirmation they would not keep the information on file in their system. They told me that it was impossible to delete it and they had four different cards on file from past transactions. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told that there were supervisors but they would not talk to customers --and (exact verbatim quote) "There never will be a supervisor available to help you." They would not give me a telephone number of the corporate office. A 2nd call revealed even more cards. Is this legal? I live in Connecticut. The business seems to be in California (& TX?) How can I get my credit card info removed? Can I somehow (short of hiring a lawyer) force them to delete the information? Why on earth would they insist on keeping it? The company is eHarmony. (In answer to the question of which company it was -- eHarmony.) I checked the Better Business Bureau website and they showed over 500 complaints against the company. I'm not sure that is relevant or not.
