Shouldnt CISCO IP PHONES be using SHORT RANGE WIRELESS or SHORT RANGE RADIO? Why do we even need black wires that trip people over, and act as a hindrance? The phone is an instrument and must be able to exist like a pet on a table using air to communicate, because air is the carrier of energy. It must also be possible for all CISCO IP PHONES within a particular office using the same preset code to be able to find each other by proxymity by physical location. For example my phone does not even know, what is the phone number of the person sitting right next to my cabin, who has a CISCO IP phone also. Shouldnt the directory of phone numbers appear DISCOVERED by COMMON CONCEPT of physical location?

Can you use Cisco IP phones in a normal home office environment? I am looking to set up my home office and interested in getting a Cisco IP phone (like the Cisco 7940G IP Phone) to use on sipgate (SIP protocol). Is it am simple as buying the Cisco phone over the net (thinking of buying this one from ebuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/97297 ) , hooking up to my cable broadband router and configuring with sipgate, and away I go .... or do I have to buy anything special like expensive licenses, expensive power adapters, etc. I am pretty new to all this so advice with more experienced people within the world of IP telephony would be greatly appreciated (along with any recommnedations for a good multi SIP account IP phone). Thanks

What service do businesses use to power their IP phones? I've been seeing Cisco IP phones at places like: Hard Rock, Hollister, Cell phone providers, etc. What provider do they use to make these phones work? I'm sorry, I wasn't clear, I didn't mean power them like electricity. I mean like who is their VOIP or SIP provider.
Can you add a printer to the 10/100 pc port on a Cisco IP Phone? Cisco IP phone is connected through ethernet port and networked. I am trying to see if it is possible to add a printer with networking capabilities though the IP Phone and if possible, will there need to be an added ip address or does the phone assign it.
How can I lock my Cisco IP Phone 7962 while out of the office? Someone on the day shift keeps changing my ringer and turning down the volume on my phone while I'm not at work. Using a Cisco IP Phone with Optimum Online? Hello, We have a small network using optimum onlines business voice plan. I was wondering if somehow, connecting a Cisco IP phone to the switcher we have (which goes to the optimum modem which controls the internet and phone) will make it work like a regular phone, or if there was anyway to do this? Thanks
Should I be able to use a Cisco VG200 w/ 2vic for a regular phone line to IP phone? Though i don't have a real life PBX as it's unrealistic for home use, nor multiple phone lines, will the voice gateway allow me to use an IP phone/ create other extension to other phones (in theory).. dial 9 our.. get the drift. I can't afford the Cisco CallManager hardware in my dreams but I know there are IOS Command line that can do similar. I'm hoping the VG200 will allow all this without the need for Asterik or even work in conjunction. Though I'd like to go the CCVP way of business... All I want is to hook up a phone line in the VIC on the Voice Gateway then do the proper configs in between (if possible as my question poses) to get a dial-tone on a Cisco IP phone then be using VOIP. Thanks for your help! =) Oh yea, bonus question, are there a Windows version of CallManager or is that pretty much just hardware?

Cisco IP 7970 phone system - How to reset the default voicemail option? I have been provided with a new phone by my company which features different setting options including voicemail setting. As default setting, you have the system voice recorded which plays (when non-answering the phone) and to which you can add your name (with your own voice) at the end of the default system voice message. The problem is that when I recorded my name, I hanged up because I couldn't do it properly (I was laughing....) and wanted to try later. But unfortunatly, the default voice system has disapeared. How can I reset the default voice system please?

How do you daisy chain a Cisco IP phone to a PC if they are supposed to be on separate Vlans? According to my Cisco book, voice and data need to be on separate vlans. And further, different Vlans are always different subnets. But where I work, the IP phone is daisy chained to the PC from the the switch port. So, the phone is plugged into the wall going to a PoE switch port, and the PC is plugged into the phone with a short patch cable. So one switch port and two vlans? Or one switch port and QoS managed flow on one Vlan? OK, so the frame bound to the PC has to go through the phone. I can't find any info on how this is done. Thanks for any help.
How can I connect 2 PC's to a CISCO IP phone? I am on a corporate network. We used to plug a CISCO IP phone (7911) to the wall, then connect a the PC to the phone. Everything worked fine, but then I got a laptop and i want to connect it to the system. So, I bought a switch, connected it to the cable coming out of the phone and attached the PC and the laptop to it. Only one of the devices (the PC or the laptop) connects, the other one doesn't. I tried different topologies, i even connected the switch to the wall and then connected the 3 other devices to it (PC, Laptop, and Phone) but then the phone did not connect. Is there something i am missing?
what is the easiest way to configure a Cisco 79xx ip phone, without cisco call manager? I have two Cisco phones (I am setting up a voip network) and both of them say "Protocol Application Invalid" I was planning on using them via the voipfone network and NOT through a Linux server or the like, they are not bricked just in need of some TLC.. help!! cheers boys it seems I am up the creek without a paddle.... Will the SPA926 or the new SPA526 be a 'plug and play' phone to use on the voipfone service, and I do not need a dedicated server, am I correct in this assumption?!
Help with my CISCO IP Phone 7941G!? We just got these new phones installed in the office, and I found the option to select a different ring-tone for it, the problem is that the only ring tone it has is the default one. Do you know how can I get the other ring tones? If I can download them or something? Thanks.
Cisco 7960 IP Phone (w/ Sip Firmware) Won't Work? I have a Cisco 7960 IP Phone flashed with SIP firmware is all set up with pbx info set up on the phone, proxy registration on, NAT on, everything set up.. Is there any advantage to implement a Cisco IP phone and a PC on two seperate lines? Scenerio 1 |PC|--|Phone|--|Switch| *PC connected to IP phone, Phone is then connected to switch Scenerio 2 |PC|--------| | |Phone|----| SWITCH | *Pc connected directly to switch *IP Phone connected directly to switch Scenerio number 1 appears to be the more efficient design (after reading a few white papers and datasheets) Is there any advantage (possibly in terms of security and/or throughput[while keeping QOS in mind]) that it would be better to go w/ scenerio 2.

Cisco IP telephone technology? http://www.starshipcorp.com/shop_dealer/images/Cisco%20IP%20Phone%20CP-7941G.jpeg My school has Cisco IP telephones in all offices. Like the one shown above. Whats the specialty of IP telephones as compared to the usual telephone at home? Does the IP telephone operate on the local intranet/ethernet? And the voice is sent as packets? Hence how can u guarantee about quality as packets might get lost/damaged due to network congestion? Also, if a certain institution has an IP phone system that means their internal calls are free of charge right? (As they already have an ethernet network)
Question about Cisco phone? I have a Cisco IP Phone 7940 series at work. How do I make it so that when the intercom is used by someone, I can't hear it? Thanks! I don't want to hear it when people are being paged (from my phone only)
Cisco download area access question, IOS, IP Phone firmware.? Hey, I need to download Cisco IOS and Voice software from the Cisco download area. I understand that I need a service contract attached with my CCO Login to be able to access the download area for downloads. I wanted to know if 'any' service contract would grant me the access for the whole download area or download access is limited to type of service contract I have. For example, if I have a service contract associated to my CCO Login that I have purchased for an IP Phone, I would be able to access the phone firmwares and probably the voice softwares like unity too but would I be able to download IOS with that too? I had an office ID that was attached with a service contract and was able to download both IOS and Voice softwares. Anyone with an IP Phone service contract who could tell me or someone who has some knowledge about it would care to elaborate. I would highly appreciate it. Shirely
Cisco Inexpensive VOIP solution for newbs? I'm getting a Cisco 1701 which I know supports VOIP and considering a 2621XM to learn. I know both can do PBX (am I right?). I'd like to use a VOIP phone (or two) and use a land line. Also, I plan to set up a point to point connection to peer wanting to do similar. If I wanted to set up voice over land line what do I need to do, and cheaper method is best. I've heard of DID and FXS. DID is more expensive, the cards I've found. What interface cards would I need to accomplish inbound and outbound calling for as cheap (within a 100 range) as possible but functional. Also, say I didn't use a land line though defeat a big purpose, can I still set up two Cisco IP phones linked? Do I need Call Manager Express, is there a cheaper solution like computer based software? I'm confused on logistics and how I could go about this. If anyone could provide info, it would be great!
When am I being Monitored? Cisco Phone System? When am I being monitored at work? We have a new phone system at work and I cannot figure out when I am being monitored. My phone says Cisco 7600 IP phone or something like that. I go to my task manager and I see the monitoring program running but it doesn't start to count, my monitor doesn't blink, I do not hear an echo, etc... Does anybody know how to tell if you are being monitored at work when your company is using a Cisco VOIP phone system? I do not care for the "you should just do your job stuff". If you know that answer I would appreciate it. If you just want to preach go take it somewhere else.
Cisco VPN router to Verizon Fios. WAN Light not on.? This has stumped all the networking people that I've talked to. I'm working from home starting Monday. I am connecting a Verizon Fios router -> Cisco Router -> Cisco IP phone -> PC. At first, the WAN light was on and flashing, but it wasn't getting a local IP. We were stumped, found out it wasn't configured (they didn't save the changes apparently) and took it back to be configured properly. Got it back and now we're getting a local IP from the Cisco router itself...but the WAN light does not come on anymore. We've tried using a crossover cable and still don't have any luck. When plugging the cable in initially it sometimes will light up and flash for a few seconds but then lose the connection and turn off. My home PC is getting a fine connection through just the Verizon Fios router. Can anyone assist me with this or tell me where we can look? I only have until Sunday evening to get this resolved by myself (the networking guys at my company were no real help.)
Big problem that needs to be solved quickly How do you dial Emergency Personnel from a Cisco Systems: Cisco IP Phone 7961 Series?? We've tried dialing 9 and then 911 but it just comes up a busy signal. We've dialed 911 from someone's cell phone a little while ago but we can't seem to get through on these Cisco phones! How do you dial emergency personnel on these??? -Later Gator-

What do I need to set up an Asterisk service? I've got a rather in-depth request for anyone who has jumped through all the hoops. What do we need to make and receive calls to/from VoIP & PSTN phones worldwide, and what would the cost be? We intend to use our existing Cisco 7940 / 7960 IP phones. What specs should the server have for good call quality? we will have 5 offices with 8 users (perhaps 4 concurrent), and 1 with 20 users (perhaps 10 concurrent). With the server located in one site and all our IP phones/stations located throughout the United States, what kind of internet will be needed at both the server and IP phone ends? (asymmetric/symemetric? need packet prioritization via the switch to ensure voice call quality? will cable internet be ok?) Do we need to pay a service to convert our IP calls to/from the regular PSTN network? what about long-distance PSTN? What support, installation, troubleshooting, fixing solutions does Digium offer and how much does it run? We need to ensure that we won't lose service.
VoIP softwares or configuration? i am looking for methods on configuring a cisco ip phone and added features which i can put on. and also freewares for tracking and monitoring phones in my "network". please leave alink to the sites thanks
I.P. TELEPHONY PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP? Problem: I want to connect 3 wired CISCO IP Phones to three rooms, but i live in a rented out apartment hence i would prefer using wireless to cut down the clutter and to facilitate to moving easily if i have to. Is there a way to make the wired devices connect to wireless. I was thinking an access point but is there any other way? Also note i am aware about the wireless IP Phones but i like the look of the CISCO Wired IP Phones. Please let me know your suggestions
Wii connection issue? I'm having issues with my wii internet connection. I live in a college residence and receive my internet connection through my Cisco IP phone. I purchased a Nyko Net connect b/c the wireless signal is not strong enough in my room. Now it gets weird. Certain wii internet functions work perfectly (ie Internet channel, Wii shop) but my games fail to connect to their networks. I have only tried SSBB, and Madden 2009, and they don't work at all. The connection test shows no problems. I suspect it's an issue with the internet connection provided rather then the Wii.

Juniper versus Cisco...thoughts? We're splitting our HQ in two, moving about 40 folks over to a new location. We have an Avaya phone system and will be deploying IP phones at the new site over a pair of bonded point-to-point T1's. Our phone vendor is recommending Juniper J2300's on both ends...I've read a few bad reviews and some good reviews of Juniper. I'm cross-shopping a Cisco 1841 on one end (costs about $400 more than the Juniper) and a Cisco 2811 on the other end (costs more but has 4 WIC slots...more on that later). The reason I'm looking at a beefier router on the HQ end is that I'd like to potentially retire some of our SonicWALL devices to sort of 'clean up' what has become a pretty complex network and condense them into one chassis....and I hear that Juniper's strength is firewalls...in which case realistically I'd probably go for a J2320, again to get the extra slots...but the 2320 costs about the same as the Cisco.... ...so do I go with the newcomer Juniper or do I 'Pay the Piper' for Cisco?
I need CISCO help!!!!? I'm working on a senior project in my university, however; my concentration is not programming. We're a group of 4 working on Cisco ip telephone "7975". Cisco VG200 w/ 2VIC 2FX with a Voice Gateway 200 and no PBX just Call Manager Express on 2621XM.? I know this sounds kind of boring and all not having a PBX (down the road) but this is for simple home use. I have a Cisco 2621XM w/ Call Manager Express, a Voice Gateway 200 w a 2 VIC 2FX card, and a 7906G VOIP IP Phone. All I (boringly) want to do is plug in a phone line into the VG200, run it through the 2621 w/ Call Manager Express, and ring ring. Sounds simple, over complicated for a basic phone line but there is a bit more to it down the road. Is this relatively easy to do? Also, how is licensing handled? Always the fun buster... Thanks!
