How do automated telephone systems that respond to your voice work?
Is there a person behind that listens to what you say and presses a button to make an automated voice response or something? How does it work? Especially when you are reciting numbers or saying actual phrases?

- the system uses voice recognition software to convert your voice into the data that it needs to make the choices to connect your call properly..
- thousands of calls have been recorded. voices analysed. sounds associated with letters. same as voice recognition software. a computer "listens" to what you say, compares that to all the "sounds" it "knows" and selects what it thinks you're saying. a telecommunications company here uses it to get to their help desk. pain in the a55. i end up saying "my f*ing phone's f*cked you f*cking sh*t" "thankyou your call will be directed to customer service shortly"
