Who was Elisha Gray? What was his role in the development of the telephone system?

- The claim by Encyclopedia Britannica is that Elisha Gray is known for his legal battle over the invention of the telephone. Bell used a transmitter of the same type which Gray invented previously to transmit his voice over a wire. In his patent application, Bell did not describe a transmitter like he used on the day of the voice transmission. Also, the receiver he used was like one Gray had created and used publicly a few months previously. Although Gray took Bell to court, the system awarded Bell with the patent. Hope this helps!
