How to use IP Phone at home.?

I have got an IP phone from one of my friends. I also have a broad band connection at home. How can I use that phone at home. Is it true that it can only be used in offices only as the infrastructure in offices supports it. Please provide me the details if it can be used at home also. Thanks.
