Who are the leaders in technology?

On the water cooler wars (debating politics) the subject of technology came up. It was said that Japan is kicking America's butt in terms of technology. But if that is true, why do we not see more japanese logos on technology products? Are their logos inside the products? Are they producing(designing/engineering) chips or are they just manufacturing the chips. Are they producing atom chips? And in terms of America, is Windows Vista being sold around the world? Or only here in America? Is China/Japan buying America's Cisco products, HP products, Dell products, Microsoft products, etc. ? If the japanese are making better Operating Systems or networking devices, why do we not see it here? If they have better technology out on the market, can you please specify that technology? Whether it be phones or vehicles. Why do people keep saying they are ahead? How are they ahead? Are they ahead in the current market? Or is it just predicted that they will be ahead in the coming market? Please quote a question above and answer the specific question with a specific (CITED) answer.
